Art is your all-American nice guy. The man is just a nerdy guy who loves history, samurai films, and Star Wars. He once lived a normal life with his dad and grandma in Arizona. Art's mom died when he was only two. His grandma was one the old conservative, Republican types. The father would do anything to make his mother happy. Art just went along with things just to make his grandmother happy as well. Then in high school, he began to question all of the beliefs that he grew up with. Other than that, he was normal until he went away to college in Texas.

In his first year of college, Art met Margaret and they began dating. She grew up from a different background than he did. Her liberal charm drew him deep into her. Naturally, Margaret didn't get along with Art's grandmother. The old lady even tried to break the couple up on many occasions. In the end, Margaret got the upper hand when his grandmother fell down the stairs and broke her leg and hip. She convinced Art to send his grandmother into a nursing home after she got out of the hospital. At age twenty-two, the couple got hitched and seven years later, Art and Margaret are still married. They live separately because of their jobs, but the couple finds time for each other. Art is mostly seen hanging around with T.J. and Tony. One thing that he really doesn't like is being called an old man because he would rather be at home reading than out partying all the time.
