Chapter Fourteen: Bad Spinning:
-June 30th,
2011-
9:50 a.m.
Kyosuke rubbed
his forehead.
“April-san,” he
said at work.
“Yes?” April
asked. Her partner hesitated as his eyes shifted back and forth.
“What exactly
are we?” he asked.
“What do you
mean?”
“Well…” How was
he going to ask this? There had to be some tact for this question, right? He
didn’t want to come off as rude.
“Relationship-wise?” April asked. Kyosuke froze, red-faced.
“What?!” he
asked. She glanced up at him.
“Am I right?”
the English shinigami asked.
“Uh…” Kyosuke
said.
“Am I right?”
she asked again. He lowered his head.
“Yes,” he said.
“How did you know?” April giggled.
“It’s so
obvious,” she said. “I saw it on your face.”
“That bad?”
“Yeah.”
Kyosuke buried
his face in his hands. I’m that obvious?
Damn it!
“What do you
want us to be?” April spoke up. Kyosuke lifted his head.
“Huh?” he asked.
April had her eyes locked on him.
“What do you
want us to be?” she asked. “Lovers? Friends? Friends with benefits?”
“No!”
“No?”
“I mean… I don’t
know.” He noticed her frowning and narrowing her eyes.
“What?” Kyosuke
asked.
“You’re turning
into the type of man I hate,” she said. “The indecisive type.” Her tone made him
shiver. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to see that face again.
“Oh,” Kyosuke
muttered. Why couldn’t he get this right? He pushed his hair from his forehead.
“I’m sorry,” the
shinigami said.
“What?” April
asked. Kyosuke lowered his hand.
“When I’m around
you,” he began. “I can’t think straight. Looking at you throws me off.”
“In what way?”
April asked.
“Good. Very
good.”
“So… What are
we?”
He rubbed the
back of his head. “Together, I guess.”
“In what way?”
Kyosuke opened
his mouth, but closed it. “I don’t know. All I know is that I really like you.”
April’s expression didn’t change.
“I could like
you too,” she said. “But you need to stop being so fickle.” Kyosuke started at
her as she went back to work. Something inside of him became deflated.
