Chapter Four:
New Protégée:
He sleeps in the
daylight. While he sleeps, he watches the world. So far, he doesn’t like what he
sees.
Vampires were
supposed to be terrifying creatures. Now they had been reduced down to lab rats.
Numbers of them keep disappearing. But, what could they do? Human curiosity was
a dangerous thing to behold. Humans couldn’t leave well enough alone. They dug
and dug until everything falls apart. Other species were stuck paying the bill.
Vampires ended up being the latest victim of human curiosity.
The kidnappings,
experiments, pain, and suffering. Most of vampires kidnapped never came back.
Those that did never could blend back into their world. Humans will never learn
to leave well enough alone.
He watched the
world in his sleep again. However, a new, peculiar sight caught his eye.
She looked like
bones walking down the abandoned Southern California streets. She looked like
she had too much to drink and could barely keep her balance. But… she wasn’t a
normal human. What was a vampire doing walking around the city in the sunlight?
And why wasn’t she burning away? Even in his sleep he frowned.
She had been
another victim. He could see the drugs and chemicals floated through her blood
stream. The poor thing acted like she hadn’t fed in months. But the fact that
she was walking around in the sun without any problems or burning up intrigued
him. She could be a great asset to him. A little bit of nursing back to health
and she would be perfect to stop this madness. He needed to arrange where he
would “accidentally” bump into her.
For now, he
would keep watch over this struggling vampire. Her kills were rather sloppy. She
wasn’t new at this, he could tell. It had to be the side effects of the drugs
the scientists gave her. This vampire would have to relearn everything from the
beginning.
For now, he would keep watch over her and make his move when the sun went down.
