The Phone Call:

-Norman-

I was sound asleep in bed when my phone rang. I reached out from under my sheets as I dug around for my phone.

“Hello?” I asked in a muzzled voice.

“Norman!” a girl screams over the line. “I need your help!” I sat up with a puzzled look on my face.

“Mandy?” I asked. “What’s the matter?”

“Norman! I’m in serious trouble!”

“Why? What’s going on?”

“Cole has taken it!”

“Has what?”

“The tape! Cole took the tape!”

“What tape?”

That tape!”

Her words finally jogged my memory. “Oh…”

“Yes!” Mandy shouted. “If he shows it to anyone, I’m screwed!”

I furrowed my brows in bed. “So… what do you want me to do about it?”

“Get it back!” she screamed. I had to hold the phone away from my ear, shutting my eyes.

“How am I supposed to do that?” I asked.

“I don’t care!” she screamed. “Just get it back!” Mandy hung up before I could say a word. A puzzled look came over my face as I stared at my phone. What was all of that about? My cell phone rings again. This time, it’s Dave on the other line.

“Yeah?” I asked, answering.

“Where are you dude?” he asked. “Did you forget what today is?” I tilted my head.

“Huh?” I asked.

“It’s the film festival this weekend! We have to set up everything in the film club, remember?” he said. I turned and looked over at my calendar on my closer door. The date circled in red today suddenly jogged my memory.

“Oh yeah!” I said.

“We start running at seven! Get down here and help us get set up!” Dave shouted. “Hurry up!”

“Okay! I’m on way right now!” I shouted. I hung up and jumped out of bed. Damn it, I knew that I was forgetting something when I was leaving for class. As I raced out the door to get back to campus, I had no idea that Mandy’s crisis and this film festival would end up blending together into one nasty headache for me.
