Chapter Four:
Cold Moon Queen:
She doesn’t have
emotions. That was how she was born. Her world was full of darkness and
emptiness. She’s had no contact with others either. She just hoovered in the sky
with no feeling.
But then, she
looked down onto the earth.
The sound of his
prayers teased her ears. Who was that? She had to look down and see. The dark
trees below blocked out everything. But she could smell the sap from them,
making her nose tingle. She reached down below her. What was this feeling in her
chest?
Further down,
that’s when she saw him. He had to be about fifteen or sixteen years old. She
couldn’t see his face because he had his back to her view. It was all she could
do to not go crazy. Suddenly, this boy looked up. His blue eyes met with hers.
Her whole body felt so warm.
“Hello?”
Did he just
speak? Was he speaking to her? Her eyes shifted everywhere.
Do you mean me?
“You can see
me?”
Yes. Can you?
“Yes.”
Her heart
fluttered in her chest. Was she even aware that she had a heart?
Wow! Um… uh…
The boy tilted
his head. “Are you okay?”
Yes. Um…Who are you?
“Who are you?
She hesitated.
This was the first time anyone ever asked her that. She never had to think about
that before. In fact, she was mostly asleep in the sky. In those peaceful years,
she never dreamt, but she never had to think about anything.
I… I don’t know who I am.
“Why is that?”
I don’t know. This is the first time that I have been awake.
“You’re been
asleep?” he asked. “For how long?”
I don’t know.
“I want to see
your face,” he said. “Can you come down with me?” His question shook something
inside of her.
You want me to come down with you? Why would you want me to do that?
The boy
shrugged. “I just want to see you.” She didn’t know how to respond. Her supposed
heart pounded against her chest. Before she knew, she found herself sinking down
to the woods. She found herself standing in front of him. He looked so
attractive close up. The boy smiled and touched her cheek.
“Hello,” he
said. Her cheeks turned bright red.
“Hi…” she
murmured.
“My name is
Sosuke,” the boy said. “Your name will be Runa.”
“Runa?” she
asked. “Is that a nice name?”
“Yes,” Sosuke
said. Runa closed her eyes and smiled.
“Okay,” she
said. “My name is Runa.”
“May I kiss
you?” the boy asked. She opened her eyes.
“Kiss?” Runa
asked. The boy leaned in and kissed her on the lips. Runa slowly let herself
kiss him back. Maybe the moon queen wasn’t so cold after all. Sosuke pulled
away. Runa stood in front of him with rosy cheeks.
“Can you kiss me again?” she asked. “I really liked that.” The boy gently kissed her again as he pulled her into his arms. Runa let herself be taken in by his infatuation. Can love grow between this boy and the moon goddess? Only the summer nights will tell.
