Chapter Two:
Sweet Diggs:
Okay, the
apartment actually looked nicer than he thought. Wallace couldn’t be convinced
judging by the way the receptionist’s attitude. Since, this would be the only
place that he could afford to live. (Speaking of which, he still needed a job.)
Wallace shook his head and unlocked the door. Inside was dark with the blinds
closed. He felt around for a light switch. The lights overhead flickered on.
Wallace’s jaw dropped. He would have that much space to live in now? The living
room alone was the size of an office space. There was no furniture inside.
“Whoa,” he
muttered to himself. Wallace dragged his lounge inside. The apartment looked so
clean. He walked over to the window and opened the blinds. The sun nearly
blinded him, making his shield his eyes. He could see the city down below.
Wallace’s jaw dropped.
“Holy…!” he
yelled. Right then, he fell in love with the city. He had to start unpacking and
make this apartment home. Wallace rushed over to his first trunk and unlocked
it. Let’s see… clothes, bed sheets, curtains, shoes, underwear, and a blanket.
He took a look around. First, he would need some furniture. Was the rest of the
apartment empty like this?
A walk around
the apartment proved yes. There was only a sink, toilet, and a bath/shower area
in the bathroom. Okay, the had cabinets, sink, counters, dishwasher, stove, and
fridge. Wallace rubbed his forehead. This would be more work than he expected.
At least he could put curtains on the windows. Plus, he could set up the
kitchen. Food would be another thing to add on the list of things to get. The
clothes could go in the closet in what would be his room. The toilettes went in
the bathroom.
Suddenly, there
was a knock on his door.
“Coming!”
Wallace yelled. He leapt over his open truck and dashed to the door.
“Who is it?” he
asked. He took a look through the peek hole. A man about his age stood in the
hallway with his hands in his pockets. A confused look came over Wallace’s face.
He opened the door.
“Hello?” he
asked. The man perked up when he saw the new neighbor’s face.
“Hey buddy,” he
said. “How are you doing?” Wallace gave him a strange look.
“Uh… who are
you?” he asked.
“Oh!” the man
said. “My name is Ricky. I live next door to you. What’s your name?” The country
boy blinked at him.
“Wallace?” he
asked.
“Cool man,”
Ricky said. “Did you just move in today?”
“Yes…” Wallace
said. His eyes shifted back and forth. How long was this guy with long hair and
a nose ring going to stay here? Ricky tried to look inside the apartment.
“What are you
doing?” Wallace asked.
“Need some
furniture?” his neighbor asked.
“Yeah…” the new
guy said.
“Sweet, I know
where you can score some,” Ricky said. Wallace gave him a strange look as he
shook his head back and forward.
“I don’t have
much money,” he said.
“Not a problem,
man!” the neighbor said. “We can get it cheap and free.” Wallace opened his
mouth but Ricky cut him off.
“Follow me! I
know just the place!” he said. Ricky grabbed his new neighbor by the arm and
dragged him off down the hall before he had a chance to argue.
“Huh?!” Wallace
asked as they made it to the elevator. “What about the apartments?!”
“It’s fine!” Ricky said. “This is a really safe building. You can leave your doors unlocked during the day!” He pressed the down button and the doors opened wide. Wallace sighed as his new neighbor pulled him inside. He didn’t have much as choice right now, did he?
