Chibi Adventure
Mako-chan lifted her head when someone tapped on her bedroom window. The
chibi-sized girl sat up and looked out. A black raven flapped in the window.
“Good morning, Kuro-san!” she said when she opened the window. “How are you
today?” Mako-chan noticed a bright pink envelope in its talons.
“What’s this?” she asked. The chibi girl reached out and took the envelope.
Inside smelt like baby powder when she opened it.
“Hello, Mako-chan,” she read aloud. “How have you been doing? I enjoyed that
lemon poppy seed cake you made last summer. You are invited to my party at noon
today. I look forward to seeing you again. Love, Akina-chan.” Mako-chan squealed
and danced around.
“Akina-chan!” she said. “My dear friend!” She ran over to her closet and looked
for favorite party dress. Mako-chan pulled out her white and brightly-colored
polka dot dress. She smiled as she held it up to her body. In five minutes, the
chibi girl was dressed and ready to go.
Akina-chan lived on an island on the other side of a lake in a park. To a normal
person, it would only take about fifteen minutes to get there. For chibi-sized
people, the trip would take a few hours. Mako-chan knew that she would have to
get a head start if she wanted to make it the party by noon. She started off
with a little jog to the parking lot. It was lucky for her the sun had just
started to come up on a Sunday. Too many people and their big feet scared her.
“Excuse me! Excuse me! Could you not step on me?” she would ask. Today, the
people weren’t out yet. Mako-chan still had to be careful of one more danger.
She froze when she heard a low meowing behind her. The chibi girl rose as she
turned around.
“Don’t tell me…” she mumbled. Mako-chan turned to see a giant white cat with
glowing yellow eyes staring at her. The chibi girl gulped as she started to back
away. This evil, fluffy cat was always the first obstacle when she wanted to go
out for the day. It always tried to jump out and eat her. Mako-chan trembled as
she stepped backwards on her path.
“Hello, Neko-san…” she mumbled. The cat got into a pounce stance. The chibi girl
gulped as she tried to look for a way to escape. Her spine froze as the cat’s
low meowing filled the air. Mako-chan’s knees trembled. The furry nemesis jumped
at her, mouth wide open. The chibi girl screamed and took off running. That big
white brute gave into the chase. Mako-chan wound up running face forward into
the grill of a wheel.
“Ow,” she mumbled as she fell on her butt. Mako-chan jumped when she heard the
tailpipe kick back. She looked up to see the biker looking down at her.
“Hop on,” the biker said. Mako-chan had big stars in her eyes as she rode on the
back of the motorcycle out of the parking lot.
“Wow!” she said. By this rate, she could hop off at the street near the park and
continue from there. Maybe there, Mako-chan could pick up a gift along the way.
When the motorcycle pulled up into traffic at a red light, the chibi girl hopped
off and dashed to the sidewalk. She still had a long way to go before she could
get to the little island. But first, she still needed to pick up a present for
Akina.
Her beloved friend loved flowers. Mako-chan figured that she would go to the
park and look for a fresh blossom there. Lucky for her, she knew a shortcut to
make her way to the park. But, that would involve possibly running into more
cats.
The chibi girl held her breath.
Mako-chan crouched down into a running position. She
closed her eyes and took off running down the alley. Hopefully, this shortcut
wouldn’t be so long. Come on, I can do this! Make it to the park, get a gift, and get across
the lake!
To her dismay, she would get help in a way that she didn’t really ask for.
Mako-chan made the mistake of opening her eyes and looking behind her. A fat
black cat gave chase with hungry eyes. All of the color drained from the chibi
girl’s face.
“Oh, you have to be kidding me!” she cried. Mako-chan picked up the pace with
her running. Why did cats see her as something to eat?
“I am not something to eat!” the chibi girl screamed.
----------
By 9:59, Mako-chan collapsed into the short grass of the park, panting. She made
it, but not how she wanted. Still, the chibi girl had time to make it to the
party on time. But first, Mako-chan still needed to find a present. She leapt to
her find and looked around through the tall flowers. The colors of the petals
played with the bright sun. Mako-chan walked around each stem as she looked for
the right flower.
She stopped moving when she came across a tall lilac-colored flower standing
under the sun. Little stars filled her eyes.
“Pretty!” Mako-chan said. She began to plot out how she was going to cut down
this beautiful flower and drag it with her. The chibi girl started to bend the
flower downwards. The problem was how could see cut the stem and take it with
her? She paused when something bumped into her leg. Mako-chan looked down to see
a beetle with claw-like jaws. He seemed to nudge her on the calf. At first, she
tilted her head.
“What is it?” Mako-chan asked. The beetle pointed his jaw at the flower.
“Oh, you want to help me cut down the flower?” she asked. “Okay…” Mako-chan
stepped aside. The beetle walked up to the stem and started chomping into the
thick green. The lilac flower flew down like a tall tree.
“Thank you,” Mako-chan said, bowing. She picked up the flower and dragged it
with her. The brave little chibi marched down to the lake with the flower in
tow. But then, she hit another problem. Mako-chan frowned when she saw the
water.
“How am I supposed to get across?” she asked aloud. The chibi girl looked up
when she heard squawking over her head.
“Huh?” she asked. Before she realized what happened, talons grabbed her by the
shoulders and picked her up with the flower in her hands. Poor Mako-chan
screamed the whole way through the sky.
“I don’t want to die!” she cried with her eyes shut. She didn’t care if she was
squeezing on the stem too tightly, staining her favorite party dress. Her little
life flashed before her eyes.
“Please! I don’t taste good! Don’t eat me!” Mako-chan pleaded. She paused when
she heard a bird-like laugh over her head. The chibi girl looked up with a
puzzled look on her face.
“Wait,” she said. “I know that voice.” Mako-chan lifted her head.
“Kuro-san?” she asked. Before the chibi girl knew, she and the raven landed on
the island across the lake. Mako-chan waved with her free hand as Kuro-san flew
away.
“Thank you!” she shouted. The chibi girl turned and walked up to the house made
of mud, stick, and stone. She grinned and knocked on the door. A red-headed
chibi girl greeted her.
“Mako-chan!” she said. “You made it! I’m so glad you’re here!” Her friend panted
and held out the flower. Akina raised her eyebrow.
“For me?” she asked.
“Happy birthday, Akina-chan!” Mako-chan with a grin.
