Five Star
How was William going to fix this? All of the women at the table were staring at
him. One of them was a guest who overstayed her welcome. Another who wanted
answers. The third struggled to keep the peace. The old man rubbed his forehead.
One problem at a time here. William took a breath.
“I’m so sorry,” he said. Liz raised an eyebrow.
“For what?” she asked. William tried to struggle for a response. Why was this so
hard? He was never the type to apologize. How things have gotten that bad?
“I want her gone!” Liz said.
“Liz,” Clover whispered.
“Hey!” Bretha shouted. Of course she did. This lady just showed up out of
nowhere, of course. Now she wouldn’t leave.
“But he promised me marriage!” Bretha shouted.
“No, I didn’t,” William said. She looked at him with big eyes. Not this again.
The old man shook his head. Liz got up from the table.
“What are you doing?” William asked.
“What else? I’m calling the police,” she said. She shook off Clover’s hand.
Bretha looked up with wide eyes.
“Liz,” the younger sister said.
“You don’t have to do that,” William said.
“Yes, I do. She’s not going to go any other way. It’s time to call the police,”
Liz announced. She walked over to the police. The unruly woman looked ready to
pounce. William scrambled to figure out what to do. This situation had gotten
out of hand. Then again, what was he expecting? The method of execution fell
flat on its face.
“Hello, police. I have an intruder in my uncle’s house. She refuses to leave and
claims that she is marrying her,” Liz said on the phone. Bretha leaped across
the table and lunged at the young woman.
“Bretha, no!” William shouted. Clover ran over to stop the woman. The old man
ran over to stop them. Liz slowly stepped to the side. The whole time, she held
the phone to her ear.
“She just tried to attack me. Send the police here now!” Liz shouted. William
and Clover struggled to keep Bretha still. That was it.
He needed to put a stop to this now.

Could this get any worse? All four old biddies were at the new couple’s house
now. Annie rolled her eyes.
“Did you have to bring them along?” she asked. Lily put up her hands in a shrug.
“I didn’t know they were coming!” she said. “They certainly ran off and left
me!” That was more directed to her friends.
“Well we ‘ere!” Clyde shouted. Lily growled at her friend’s poor grammar.
“Can you please leave?” Christy asked. “All of you!” All eyes fell on her. Her
face looked bright red. Phillip put his hand on her shoulder.
“It’s okay,” he said. “They just want to say hi.” His girlfriend yanked her
shoulder away from him.
“They said hi already,” she growled. “They can go now.” Christy was about to
close the door, but Lily grabbed onto the edge.
“Hey!” the younger woman shouted.
“At least try the cake,” Annie said. By now, everyone was crowded around the
door. Even Lewis, Muriel, and Clyde got closer to the couple. Phillip nervously
laughed.
“What do we do now?” he whispered to his partner. Christy’s annoyance and anger
were boiling over. She didn’t have enough space to safely close the door.
Pretty soon, they were all inside the new house.
