Out of This World
How long was this to go on? Lewis didn’t know how much more she could take of
this. Three weeks had been too long by this point. Sure, Kat was heavily
pregnant and needed some help. Lewis did care about her niece. But still…
The farmer threw back her head and groaned.
“I can’t take this anymore!” she complained. Lewis looked down the hall. She
wasn’t sure if Kat was still asleep or not. She needed a way to fix things. Kat
and the baby would have to stay here until they found a new place to live. But
for now, this would have to do.
Lewis looked up when she heard the doorbell ring. She already knew who it was.
Sure enough, it was her friends at the front door.
“Hey ya!” Clyde shouted.
“How have you been holding up?” Muriel asked. Lewis threw back her head and
groaned.
“I’m going mental here,” she complained.
“Is there anything we can do?” Lily asked. The farmer made a face at her. Was
she serious right now? Lewis didn’t say anything as she backed into the house.
The other old biddies followed her inside.

Another day at the Sunny Plum. However, it wasn’t open yet. Annie straightened
up Crusher’s apron.
“Now, Dustin,” she said. “I won’t be gone for long, but you know how to run the
café without me by now. I’ve shown you what you need to do around here. Do you
need me to go over what you need to do?”
“No, auntie,” he said. Annie didn’t look so convinced.
“Are you sure?” she asked.
“Yes, auntie,” the big boy said. Annie gave him a stern look. She still wasn’t
convinced, but said nothing.
“I will be back this evening,” she told him. “Call me if you run into any
trouble. I left you the number by the phone. Are you sure you know what you are
doing?”
“Yes, auntie,” Crusher said. Annie finally breathed out.
“Okay,” she said. The woman leaned in and kissed him on the cheek. “I will be
back this evening.”
“Yes, auntie,” Crusher said. Annie turned and walked out of the café. She
flipped the sign to open on the way out. No sooner had she gone, Crusher started
to sweat. He was going to be the one in charge of the café while his aunt was
out at a class reunion. This boy was going to be the one to hold down the fort,
alone, without his aunt. Crusher gulped.
Oh boy…

What was it going to take to keep Lewis and Muriel from going crazy? How long
was this going to last? Who was going to snap first? Something had to be done.
The farmer rose to her feet.
“I can’t take this anymore. I’m getting out of here!” she said.
“And go where?” Lily asked.
“I don’t care!” Lewis shouted. “I’m just going to go!” She waved off the leader
as she walked out the front door. Lily, Muriel, and Clyde looked at each other.
They had no choice but to follow her. And follow her they did.
“Auntie!” Kat yelled as the front swung closed.
