Chapter Forty-Four: Duck’s Last Dance:

Five days later, I received another text. This one came from Duck herself. I had a hard time reading it at first because I had just got up from a hangover. This is basically what she said:

Come out to my show tonight.

I stared at it blankly for a long moment. I opened the reply and typed back.

What for?

I waited for a couple of moment. She gave me this reply.

Come out tonight and see! :P

I frowned to myself. This looked like another game that she was going to play with me tonight. I really can’t stand her games. Well, might as well humor her tonight. I don’t have much else to do anyway.

I made it out to Club Firebird at seven. I sat at the bar closest to the stage just to show Duck that I was here. I stirred the cherry in my drink. I don’t understand why these places have to make these drinks so pretty looking. Nobody cares; they are just going to drink it down anyway. Stop trying to be fancy with it. We don’t care. My thoughts slowed down when the lights dimmed. I turned my attention to the stage. The MC walked up to the microphone.

“Ladies and gentlemen!” he announced. “We have a special show for you tonight! This is your lucky night! It’s the last Irish Magnolia’s show in New Orleans! Enjoy!” He moved aside as the curtain rose. I froze at those words. Wait! Last show? What’s going on? The gold and neon pink lights hit the stage. Duck and her dance crew came out to the audience. My eyes stayed on Duck the whole time. So this was what she was trying to tell me. Why not come right out and say it? Why another game to leave me hanging? My questions faded away when I noticed Duck’s true beauty for the first time under the hot colored lights.

She’s never been a pretty woman. I always knew her to be loud and Irish. The Irish part is key factor in her charm. The loud part of her just annoyed me until no end. Duck wasn’t pretty in her looks. She never was a skinny woman. She moved like a pluck penguin on and off stage. It amazed me that those fat legs of hers moved so well as she danced. Tonight, she looked like she was floating as she moved. It still looked clumsy, but she still floated. I began if it was the same woman that I had spent close to a year with. That woman was more of a savage than a swan. Mind you, she still looked like a savage on stage, but it didn’t really annoy me like it usually did when we were alone together.

In fact, the savage Duck looked rather sexy tonight in a bizarre way.

The pounding music of the song highlighted her every movement. I never really liked pounding disco and remixes of songs, but tonight I’m not mad. The song suits just fine, in fact. I wanted to yell out to her to keep on, but that would just ruin the moment between us. The other dancers can’t compete with her. Right now, Duck is in her own world with the show. That, somehow makes her more beautiful. Yet, I couldn’t help but to wonder why it’s her last show in New Orleans. Is the group disbanding or going somewhere else? And why didn’t she tell me? I frowned as I watched her reach the climax of the show.

The colors and music seemed to swirl around her. The sweat on her body added onto the strange appeal that is Duck. I found myself unable to tear my eyes away. My heart raced along with the music swirling in my ears. All the alcohol couldn’t match such a feeling. I didn’t even get to finish my beer. I only kept my eyes on the dancing Duck on stage, masturbating to her moving body in my mind. Yes! Yes! YES!

It all blurred into one.

I didn’t even realize the show was over until the lights went up and the audience applauded. By the time I turned back to the stage, Duck and the other girls were gone. I clapped for a short moment before returning to my drink. Moments later, I got another text from Duck.

Meet me near the bus stop around the corner in twenty minutes to say goodbye.

I didn’t even need to read it a second time. I paid my tab and hurried out of the club before anyone could stop me.
