Fragments Flying at the Speed of Light

Masayuki felt himself breaking into pieces. He didn’t get a chance to react. His vision was scattered everywhere. The boy could see everything. The past, the present, the future, this space, out there, and everything in between. Masayuki could barely keep up.

What… What’s happening to me?

His brain began to buckle from the pressure. Masayuki could only close his eyes and let it take him. Strings all shot through his body. The boy let out a loud gasp. The whole time Natalia tried to talk to him.

“Masayuki! Can you hear me? Masayuki! Masayuki!”

Another voice joined hers.

“Is he still with us?”

“I don’t know! I can still feel him. Hang on if I can just…”

Masayuki, or rather pieces of him, could see a pair of brown eyes staring at him.

“There you are,” she said. He tried to speak but found that he had no mouth.

“Don’t try to talk,” Natalia said. “Just listen to me. We can help you get back together and find Baby’s soul. But you are going to have to do as I say. Do you understand me?” Masayuki tried to show her that he understood. He heard her sighing in relief.

“Good. Everyone’s strings are attached to you. I don’t know how it happened, but you are going to have to try and use them to get back. I don’t know how. You are just going to have to figure that one out by yourself. And you better get moving unless you want to be dissolved into dust.”

Masayuki understood but felt more lost than before.

“I don’t know which way you should go. Just move.” She could feel that little fragment of his soul moving along.

“Don’t worry,” Natalia said. “I will be with you the whole way.”

Meanwhile, Natalia looked down at her feet. Everyone except for her was out cold on the ground. It was a miracle that the angel herself was still conscious. She didn’t know how much longer that was going to last. Natalia sank down to her knees. She put her hand to her chest.

“Masayuki… get back with Baby right now!” she forced out of her mouth. “Otherwise… Otherwise…” The angel fell down onto the floor. She took in heavy breaths.

“I don’t know how long we are going to last,” Natalia managed to say as she fought to keep her eyes open.
