Fresh Release
A light rain hit
Peter in the fresh. “Hm? Where are we?”
“I think we’re
back in the field.”
“Huh? How?”
“Don’t ask me.
Omi was the one who figured it out.”
“How?”
“It took a while
to see it, really.”
“But how?”
“It took a while
to see it myself. But I noticed that the electricity wasn’t really shocking us.
My hand went through the waves. From there, I put it together.”
“Those
bastards.”
“So is this
real?”
“Yes.”
“And we’re
alive?”
“Yeah.”
“Oh. Okay. I’m
too tired to move.”
“Me neither.”
“I can’t
either.”
“What do we do
now?”
“Rest. Then get
back to the house.”
“What about our
phones?”
“We still have
them.”
“Huh?” Peter
felt along his pocket. “Oh.”
“Yeah.”
“Do they still
work?”
“Yeah. I called
the others already. They’ll be here soon.”
“Cool. So we
just lay here until then?”
“Yeah. Pretty
much.”
“Oh.” Peter
looked up at the sky. There were stars in the sky. Real stars. No light
pollution. Just the stars and the rain. He wanted to reach out to the sky but
didn’t.
“Beautiful,
isn’t it?” Peter asked instead.
“Yeah,” Omi
said. Cook just nodded.
The three of
them just watched the rainy sky.

-Cook-
They rescued us.
I think it was Jimmy, Saito, Midori, and Tommy who found us. They took us back
to the house. We were all okay. No injuries. Nothing else came of this
adventure. We don’t know what really happened. Omi explained it to me but it has
left my brain. Something about hypnosis or mind control. Whatever.
And that is the story of the greatest summer adventure you had ever heard.
