Chapter Seventeen: Katie:

-Katie-

Some of us stayed behind in case ******* decided to come back. Three others and me waited and kept an eye out. Honestly, I’m bored. There hasn’t been much going on at this end. I look out the window and see passing cars, but nothing stands out. Is she even coming back? Brooke doesn’t think so.

“That bitch is gone,” she said. I quickly tried to shush her.

“Please don’t say that,” I whispered. “Ben could be listening.”

“So?”

“He really likes her.”

“So?”

I looked down at my feet. “I don’t want to upset him.”

Brooke gave me a funny look. “He’s already upset.”

“Well, I don’t want him even more upset,” I said. Brooke rolled her eyes.

“Whatever,” she muttered. I was about to say something else when the street in front of the activity center caught my attention.

“Hey Brooke,” I said.

“What?” she asked.

“How long has that car been sitting there staring at us?”

“Huh?” Brooke turned around to see a white sedan parked in front of the activity center, staring at us. She tilted her head.

“Excuse me, are you lost or something?” she asked. We walked over to sedan and looked into the driver’s window. A woman sat behind the wheel, staring at us. She didn’t look altogether there. I stared at her long brown messy hair.

“Are you okay?” Brooke asked.

“Where is Hiro?” she asked in a tiny voice. Brooke and I looked so confused.

“Hiro?” we asked.

“Have you seen him?” the woman asked.

“Who is that?” Brooke asked. That woman glared at us.

“You don’t talk back to me!” she yelled. Brooke and I looked really confused.

“What’s your problem?” Brooke asked.

“You don’t talk back to me!”

“Look, you came here staring at us.”

“Go away!”

“Now listen here, ma’am…”

“Fuck off!” That angry lady sped away. She took two laps around the street before pulling to a stop again. This time, that woman got out of her car looking like a monster with bloody fangs.

“Where the fuck is Hiro-kun?!” she yelled.

“We don’t know!” Brooke shouted back. “We don’t know this Hiro guy you are talking about!”

“Liar!” this crazy woman yelled. She threw her purse at us. I ran around the back as she and Brooke were still yelling at each other.

“Tell where Hiro-kun is or I will kill you!” the woman yelled. I raced out with the hose in my hands.

“Eat this!” I shouted. I let the hose go at full blast at her. That woman didn’t even shield herself from the cold water. In fact, she was laughing with her hands on her hips.

“Think that’s going to stop me?” she asked. I turned to Brooke with big eyes.

“Now what?” I asked. She shook her head as she looked around. The crazy woman’s mood turned to an angry one.

“Where the fuck is Hiro-kun?!” she screamed. “Tell me where he is now!”

“We don’t know who that!” Brooke said. “We keep telling you that and you won’t listen to us!”

“Liars!” that crazy bitch shouted. “You’re hiding him, aren’t you? Aren’t you?!” Brooke rolled her eyes.

“No, we’re not,” she said. “We don’t even know who that is.” I bit on my hand as I looked around. Hope came into the form of a cop car pulling down the street.

“Look, Brooke!” I said as I tapped her on the shoulder.

“Girl, you are the best,” she said. That crazy bitch got into her car and sped away as we flagged down the police officer.

We didn’t have any more incidents like that for the rest of the day and ******* still hadn’t shown up.
