Chapter Eleven: London:

We go from Iceland to England. Kellie made it home without any problems. It felt weird to be back home. She sat on the couch reading an old magazine. Her mum was out for the day with her aunt and cousins.

“You sure you don’t want to go with us?” her mum asked. Kellie shook her head.

“I’m good,” she said.

“Okay,” her mum said. Now, Kellie had the house to herself. She looked over at her phone. A little smile came across her face. The girl picked up the phone and dialed that one number she had to.

“Hello?” a boy’s voice asked.

“Hey, baby! It’s me!” Kellie said.

“Kel?” the boy asked. “Where are you? Are you back in London now?” She leaned back on the sofa and smiled.

“Yes,” the girl said. “I’m going to spend Christmas and New Year’s in London.” There was a pause on the other line.

“Oh. Is that right?” the boy asked. Kellie’s light started to die in her eyes.

“Is there something wrong, Chris?” she asked.

“No, no! Everything is fine!” he yelped. Kellie narrowed her eyes.

“Uh-huh,” she said. She was going to have to look into that later. Her mind was pressing “x” for doubt.

“Are you busy this week?” she asked.

“No…” Chris said.

“Good,” Kellie said. “I will come by to see you sometime this week. I don’t know when though.” She smiled as she spoke.

“Okay,” he said. Kellie giggled.

“My family went out shopping, but I am going to help them cook dinner this evening,” she said.

“I see,” Chris said. Kellie was going to have to swing by later on. For now, she just wanted to do nothing.

“Take me on a date for Christmas,” Kellie said.

“Okay,” he said. He didn’t sound too certain about it. Suddenly, her phone rang.

“Hang on, I have another call,” Kellie said. She switched lines.

“Hello?” she asked.

“Kellie,” her mum said. “We’re at Bruce Burgers. Do you want anything?” Kellie licked her lips.

“I get me a burger and chips!” she said. “Can I have a milkshake too?” Mum laughed.

“Sure, baby,” she said.

“Thank you!” Kellie shouted. “I love you!”

“I love you too,” her mum said. Kellie broke a kiss into the phone before hanging up on her mum.

“Are you still there, Chris?” she asked.

“Yeah,” he said. “Listen, I have to go. My nan just got in.”

“Okay, bye,” Kellie said. “Love you.”

“Yeah… I love you too, babe,” Chris said. “Bye.” The couple hung up together. Kellie looked at her phone. There was definitely something not right with her boyfriend. Was he cheating on her? Maybe he wanted to break up with her? Good thing that she had all break to investigate. But right now, she felt like watching a movie on Netflix. Yeah, that sounded like a great idea. Kellie got up and walked upstairs to her room.
