Chapter Twelve:
Vatican City:
Diamond stands
at the entry of their next destination. “Are you ready? Here is our final
destination. Take a look around!” She holds out her arms.
“Welcome to the
Vatican! This is the most holy city in the world. Well, one of them at least. In
Europe. Anyway, I am just rambling on.” She clears her throat.
“Anyway, I saved
the best part of the trip for last. Everyone travels here just look at the
chapel. I have to admit that it looks pretty. Oh yeah, you can’t film or take
pictures inside. The art inside is that old. I called you out here early because
it tends to get crowded really fast. We have so much to cover today.” She takes
the guest by the hand.
“I have to admit
that I try to come here once a year. My mom takes me on Easter. This year, I
missed it because of work. But now, I am making up for it by taking you with
me.” She starts walking down the street.
“Let give you
one more piece of advice. Keep your purse and bag nearby. There are thieves in
the Vatican. Kind of ironic, don’t you think? But it’s true. Be aware of your
surroundings and keep your bags close. I will watch your back with you. Other
than that, you will be fine.” She grins.
“Any questions?
Good. Don’t worry, we won’t do much shopping today. I know you are shopped out.
Okay, maybe just a little bit. But I won’t crazy. I promise!” She clears her
throat.
“Dinner will be
on me. Like usual. We’re going to do up dinner big tonight. I mean, might as
well. You are leaving in the morning.” She pouts.
“I wish you
could stay longer with me. You have been such a delight to hang out with. Maybe
you can come back next year? You’ll have to see?” She shrugs.
“Oh well. I
tried.” She drags the guest further into the growing crowd.
“We have to get going. The crowd is coming.” She and the guest goes further into the crowd.
