Chapter LII:
The Civil War
only lasted for four years. It was long enough to tear us apart. Maddie looked
like her soul died inside. This was about the third year, I believe. Before, she
would try to stay positive. I didn’t know how she did it. She almost gave me
hope at times.
Almost.
Of course Luna
had to show up and take it all away. I could never get rid of her. However,
there was something that I needed to know.
So one night, I
waited around in my maze. I looked up at the empty sky.
“I know you’re
here!” I shouted. “Come out and show yourself!” At first, there was no response.
I gritted my teeth.
“Come out here
now!” I shouted. I froze when I felt a warm breath on my nape. I turned around.
The first thing I saw was her eyes. I didn’t jump. Looking in them made me feel
anger.
“What did you do
to them?” I asked. Luna looked up at me with a smile on her face.
“I don’t know
what you are talking about,” she said. I gritted my teeth.
“Don’t lie to
me!” I shouted. “What happened to the children?!” I grabbed her by the shoulders
and shook her forwards and backwards. She still smirked at me.
“I didn’t do
anything to them,” she said. It took my all not to scream at her.
“Then where are
they?!” I shouted. “Who took them?!” Luna giggled. My hands twitched to grab her
by the throat.
“Where are
they?!” I shouted. She licked her lips at me.
“Gone,” she
said. I glared at her.
“What?!” I
asked. Luna moved her hands up in the air in a flowy way.
“Gone, gone
away,” she said.
“Where?! Where
are they?!” I shouted. “Tell me!” She leaned in and kissed me on the lips. My
body froze. What the hell was she doing?! That bitch wouldn’t let me go. She put
her arms around my neck. I pushed her off. Luna pretended to look so innocent.
“What the hell
was that for?!” I asked. She just kind of smiled at me. I opened my mouth to
speak again, but she disappeared into thin air. I didn’t see it at the time, but
at that moment Luna stuck her claws deeper into me. I just didn’t see it until
it was too late.
I never did find out what happened to those missing children.
