Chapter Four: The Hierarchy:

Why does the hierarchy exist? Everyone have to be put in a rank somehow. There is the tippy top and there is the bottom. Plus, there is everyone squeezed in the middle. How does this happen? It can be just as simple as how you long or what you do on the first impression. Scary, I know. That’s just how it is. It’s lame, I know. That’s how the world works.

Everyone wants to be on the top. They want the glory and glam that comes with it. There are perks to being on top. Everyone bows down to you. It feels good to be the one on top. Sadly, everyone can not be at the top. Who decided this? Who else? The damn top. They want it all for themselves. They don’t want to share with the little guy.

Let’s go through each level, shall we?

There is the top, of course. They are the charmed ones. Everything is handed to them. They are beautiful. They are perfect. They are rich. Some of them are smart. They make the rest of us hate ourselves. We all want to be them. Not many can achieve this. Some of the little guys run into luck and take their place at the top. Then, the whole cycle repeats itself with the next smuck to come along.

Next is the beta level. They are not as popular or pretty as those at the top. But, they are well off. In fact, those on the beta level are the second-in-command to the big man/woman on top. They know all of the secrets and have all of the access to the good life. If something happens to the top, they set in and reign in the rest. But, is that really enough? Do they secretly want to be on the top themselves? You bet they do!

Then, there are the groups in the middle. They go by many names. Not as charmed as the top, but still better off than the little guy at the bottom. The top uses them to further their own ambitions. The middle is enamored by those on the top while they are still jealous of them at the same time. However, everyone needs those in the middle. Otherwise, the whole system will collapse. And nobody wants that.

Finally, there is the bottom. They are the peasants, the common man, the little guy. They do not get much and are pretty much ignored. They can only dream of being the top. Mostly lately than not, it will not happen. Their dreams are the only thing that most of them have to keep going. There are a few that make it to the top, but that is very rare.

We’ve got the hierarchy in place but keep this one thing in mind: no matter who you are, you are all going to die in the end. (Unless are wished back to life by some magical device. But why would that happen? This is reality after all. Get used to it.)
