Angry Cupid
Raja stared at the TV, glaring. Disgusting. His niece and stepson made him look
bad. His hand shook as he held his mug.
“Unacceptable,” he said. “This unacceptable!” The businessman gritted his teeth.
“Something wrong, dear?” Tomoe asked. Raja turned his head. His wife stood in
the doorway. He sighed and dropped his shoulders.
“Look at this,” Raja said. Tomoe walked over to his side. She saw Katsuya on the
TV screen.
“Oh,” she said. “It’s Katsuya-kun,” she said. Raja sighed.
“Aren’t you embarrassed by this?” he asked.
“No,” Tomoe said, shaking her head. Her husband gave her a strange look.
“You can’t be serious,” he said. She shrugged at him.
“I don’t complain,” Tomoe said. “He’s happy with his career.” Raja still
frowned.
“It’s just not acceptable,” he said. “He’s too old for this.”
“I don’t know,” she said. “Just as long as he’s happy.” Raja rubbed his
forehead. Of course she didn’t get it. This was her son.
“Can I get you something?” Tomoe asked.
“No, no,” he said, shaking his head. “I’m fine.”
“You sure?” his wife asked. He rubbed his forehead and nodded. Tomoe shrugged
and walked out of the living room. Raja turned back to the TV. This would not
do. He pulled out his cell phone.
“Hello, it’s me,” Raja said. “Yeah, I’m really going to need your help with
this.” He listened for a long moment, nodding.
“Thank goodness,” Raja said. “Meet me for lunch, okay? Thank you so much.
Goodbye.” He sighed in relief as he hung up. The businessman could rest with
ease now. But then, Raja turned back to the TV. Mai’s face appeared on the
screen. Her uncle frowned again. Couldn’t try have picked better careers?
“This is just embarrassing,” he muttered to himself. Raja rubbed his forehead.
Work was going to be in an hour too. Time to put on a fake smile. Raja pushed
his mouth upwards with his fingers. He sighed through his nose. The show cut to
the last commercial break of the program. He had to wish himself luck on his
personal cupid mission.
