Rain in Bonds
The sky was supposed to be clear tonight. So where did the rain come from?
Drip.
Isao wiped away his cheek. He looked up at the sky.
“Oh,” he said. Rain started to fall.
“Damn it!” Mai shouted. The pair ran for shelter.
“Shit! Shit! Shit!” Mai shouted. Isao covered her with a blazer.
“Here,” he said. She said nothing as she kept running. They made it back to the
hotel. The pair stood at the door, panting.
“What the hell, man?” Isao asked. Mai turned to him. She didn’t say a word.
“That ran came out of nowhere!” Isao said. “Now what?” Mai shrugged. Guess it
was time to call it a night? Isao walked over and opened the door.
“After you,” he said. Mai rolled her eyes as she walked by. Isao dropped his
shoulders as he followed behind.
----------
They made it back to his room. He led the way. She didn’t know why she followed
behind.
“Don’t mind the mess,” Isao said. He resisted asking why she followed him here.
They needed to dry off first. He unlocked the door and led her into the room.
Mai watched him from the bed. Isao handed her a towel.
“Thanks,” she said. The vocalis dried her hair. She took a breath. When she
looked up, Isao had his shirt and tie off. He noticed her face turning red.
“What?” he asked. Mai turned her head as she cleared her throat.
“Nothing,” she lied. Mai tried not to look. Isao frowned.
“Get a hold of yourself,” he said.
“Shut up,” she muttered. The pouring rain filled the silence. Mai cleared her
throat.
“Now what?” she asked.
“I don’t know,” he said. “Why did you come to my room?” The female vocalist’s
face turned redder.
“I don’t know!” she said. She closed up her hands into fists in her lap.
“It just happened,” she said.
“Right,” Isao said. He sat down next to her on the bed. They didn’t make eye
contact.
“I’m going to take a shower,” he said. “You can stay or go if you want. I don’t
care.” Mai puffed up her cheeks as she said nothing. Isao stood up and walked
into the bathroom. Mai sat alone on the bed. The rain outside made it hard to
think. She could just get up and leave. The door was right there. It wasn’t
locked. It was so easy. He didn’t care. He wouldn’t miss her. She should just
leave. She could leave now.
Mai frowned.
So why didn’t she do it. Even she couldn’t answer that.
