Lucy’s phone buzzed on the floor. She mumbled to herself as she felt around on the phone.

“Hello?” she asked.

“Hey baby,” a familiar voice said. Lucy quickly sat up.

“Jared?” she asked. Her cheeks flushed red.

“How are you?” Jared asked.

“Good,” Lucy said. “And you?”

“Bored,” he said. Lucy pouted.

“Aw, why?” she asked.

“To much work. The girls are okay.”

“Aw, poor baby.”

“What about you?”

Lucy shrugged. “The guys are decent. Not much going on.”

“Seriously?”

“Yeah.” Lucy lay back in bed. “So what do I owe the pleasure of this call?”

“Just bored. I miss you, girl.”

She smiled. “I miss you too.” The woman couldn’t help but chuckle.

“Say,” Lucy said. “How long do you have to be on the phone now?”

“My shift starts in a few minutes,” Jared said.

“No time for phone sex, huh?” she asked.

“No, sorry.”

“Are you free tonight?” she asked.

“I might be.”

Her lips curved into a smile. “Well, okay. Looks like I’ll be expecting your call tonight.”

“Maybe. You might get lucky.”

Lucy giggled. “Look forward to it.”

“So what shall we do until then?”

She rolled over onto her slide and smiled. “Nothing.”

“What do you mean?”

“We don’t have to really talk. We can just sit on the phone and be quiet.” There was a pause. Lucy frowned.

“No?” she asked.

“No, it’s fine,” her husband said. “We can do that.”

“Alright.”

“I love you, babe.”

“Love you too.” The couple just sat on the phone. They didn’t say a word. It felt good to hear from him again. Jared would be coming home soon. Just eighteen more months. It would be long but worth it.

After they hung up, Lucy sat up. She looked around her room. She shrugged his shoulders.

“I guess I could go out today,” the goth woman said to herself. Lucy climbed out of bed. Just another day as usual.
