Chapter Twenty-Three: Nervous:
The couple waited in the doctor’s office. Mosh held Noiz’s
hand.
“Are you okay?” he whispered. His wife nodded.
“Yes,” she said. Her fingers curled around his. The
excitement of having baby finally caught up to her. Noiz couldn’t stop talking
about it. The nursery finally got set up to her perfection. In the end, she
stood in the doorway smiling. Her work wasn’t too girly nor too masculine.
“It needs to be neutral,” Noiz said. “We don’t know what
we’re having yet.” Mosh looked up at her.
“Where is all of this coming from?” he asked.
“Well, we don’t want to risk having a boy in a pink room,”
she said.
“No, I mean you’re excited about the baby now?” Mosh asked.
Noiz pondered that question.
“Yes,” she answered. “Why wouldn’t I be?” The mouse patted
her on the head.
“I’m just glad to see you happy about something,” he said.
She rested her head on his shoulder.
---------
“Why haven’t even thought of baby names yet,” Noiz pointed
out in the doctor’s office. Mosh lifted his head.
“You’re right, we haven’t,” he said.
“What do you want to name it?” she asked. The mouse gave her
a look caught off-guard.
“You want me to choose?” he asked.
“Well, I feel like I have been the one taking all of the
control,” his wife explained. “So, I’m going to let you have a little input on
this.” Mosh let it all sink into his brain.
“And you’re okay with this?” he asked.
“Of course,” Noiz said.
“Wow,” her husband said under his breath. His eyes turned
back to his pregnant wife. “I can’t think of one right now,” he admitted.
“It’s okay,” she told him. “Take your time if you have time.
We still have a couple of weeks let.” The door opened before Mosh could say a
word. The couple looked up to see the doctor with a file in her hands.
“Well?” Noiz asked. The doctor gave her a smile.
“Everything looks great,” she said. “You’re due date will be
early this June. Would you like to know the gender?” The couple shook their
heads.
“Nah,” Noiz said. “We would like for it to be surprise.”
“Very well,” the doctor said. “Have a good day.”
“Excuse us,” Mosh said as the couple bowed before they
parted ways. He led Noiz out through the glass doors. Both of them had so much
to say, but they couldn’t get it out.
“Oooo! We’re going to be parents!” Noiz squealed at last.
Mosh put his arm around her shoulders.
“Yes,” he said, unable to hold back a smile of his own. “We
are going to be parents.”
“I can’t wait,” she said. The jitters of parenthood snuck its way in with the excitement and couldn’t stop bouncing around.
