“Why am I here?”
I asked.
“I missed up.”
“What do you
mean?”
“I wanted you
with me. But…”
“Why don’t you
come home?”
“I can’t.”
“Why?”
“I can’t tell
you now.”
“But why?”
“It’s
complicated, okay?”
“Oh…”
“I’m sorry,
Phoenix.”
“It’s just…
everyone thinks you died. You’ve been missing for a year. But I knew the truth.
I knew you were alive somewhere.” I paused.
“Wait… are you
in trouble?”
“No…”
“Then what’s
going on?”
“I can’t tell
you.”
I clicked my
tongue. “Fine. Keep your secrets Just tell me you’re okay.”
“I am.”
“Thank you.” I
paused for a moment.
“Um… how do I
get home?”
“Do you really?”
“Yes. I want to
go home.”
“Fine. Give me
your hand.”
I started to but
I paused. “Wait.”
“What?”
“When are you
coming home?”
She paused as
she looked away. “I don’t know.”
“What do you
mean?”
“I can’t tell
you.”
I frowned. “Are
you going to come home?”
“I will.”
“You promise?”
“Yes! Now you
have to go back! There isn’t much time. Take my hand!”
“Okay!” I took
her hand. The light grew heavier around us. And then I vanished into thin air.
“I will come and
get you again. Wait for me.”

I woke up back
in room. Morning was tickling in. I know that wasn’t a dream. But what was that
all about? I sat up in my bed. My window was still open. I winced as I stared at
it. Maybe I should close that. I got up and closed the window and curtains. I
went back to bed but couldn’t sleep. I just laid in bed until it was time to get
up.
And that was it. I don’t know what to make that.
