Unnerved

How were they able to get in here?

The door was unlocked. How else do you think they got in?

What are they doing here? And who are they?

I think they are friends of the older humans.

It doesn’t matter. We have to get them out somehow. There was a pause. Yoshiko seemed to shrink in her mind.

I don’t think they can do that.

You can’t mean…

No.

Please tell me you’re joking.

I wish I was. Sorry.

Damn it!

What do we do?

There isn’t much we can do. They are stuck in here with us until this is over.

“I can help them,” Ben spoke up. The angels didn’t move. The man sat up straight. Julia looked out of it next to him. Everyone else was still out cold. They had to do something fast. Natalia took a small breath.

Fine. Make it quick.

Ben doesn’t say anything as he tries to get up. To his shock, he can’t really move.

Natalia glared at him out of the corner of her eye. Well, what are you doing? Go and deal with it! Ben nervously laughed.

“Sorry. But I can’t seem to move,” he admitted. He looked down at his legs.

Seriously?

“Sorry.” A sweat drop formed on his head. Natalia didn’t know whether to scream or kill him. Still, she couldn’t break her focus. Ben was going to have to sit there and wait.

Nancy and Haru walked around the empty room. They couldn’t see a way out. No windows or doors. There wasn’t even any furniture around. Haru pulled out his phone.

“No signal,” he said. “You?” Nancy balanced her daughter in her arms as she reached into her pocket for her phone.

“Me neither,” she said. She turned and looked at her boyfriend.

“What are we going to do?” Nancy asked. Haru didn’t have an answer. He was about to admit this when he froze.

“Shhh! Do you hear that?” he asked. Nancy took a listen for herself. She was about to say no when she paused. It sounded like somebody was talking.

“I can help them.”

Nancy and Haru looked at each other. So it wasn’t just them.

“Help them? Does he mean us?” Nancy asked. “As in help us get out of here?” Her boyfriend shrugged and shook his head. She ran over to a blank wall.

“Hey! We’re stuck in here! Can you help us out?!” Nancy shouted. “Can you hear us?! Hey! Hey!”

“I don’t think they can hear us,” Haru said. Nancy turned to him, looking confused.

“That’s not possible,” she said. “How can we hear them but they can’t hear us? What is going on here?!” Again, Haru didn’t have an answer. Earlier, they couldn’t hear anything. But now…

“Sorry. But I can’t seem to move. Sorry.”
