Chapter VIII:
This would be
one of the last times that I would have nightmares.
I was walking
around in the darkness.
Hello? Is there
anyone there? Hello? Hello?
I heard
footsteps behind me. When I turned around, there was nothing. But the footsteps
kept coming closer. I don’t know what it is but something deep inside me screams
to run. Get away.
There they are
again.
I keep looking
around and there is nothing. I shouldn’t be here. I have to go. But where could
I go? There was nothing but darkness. I didn’t even feel the ground at my feet.
There it was
again.
They were
running this time. I couldn’t find where they were. I’m not armed either. I
didn’t really know how to fight either.
They were
getting closer again. I turned around again. Something or someone grabbed me. I
couldn’t scream out. The darkness covered my mouth. I felt my body being pulled
backwards.
I woke up
screaming in a carriage. Two men started at me.
“Are you okay?”
one of them asked. I stared at them, blinking. It took me a while to remember
what happened.
“Oh,” I mumbled.
I kept my eyes down to my lap. I could feel their eyes on me.
I don’t dream at all anymore. That would be last few nightmares that I would ever have. That’s what happens when the darkness takes you. Back then, I still had a chance before it would claim me.
