The Way In
Things are about to get messy. Spencer knows the truth. He had to. Melissa
looked down at her feet. She nudged the man in the head with her toe.
“Oi. Oi! You still alive? Oi! Oi! Wake up! Oi! Oi!” She drew back her foot when
she heard groaning.
“Oh, good. You’re awake,” Melissa said. Spencer looked up at her. He bolted
upright.
“Gah!”
“Chill. Just calm down, okay? Calm down.” The man sat staring at her. Melissa
sighed. She knew this was going to take work. But still…
“What do you remember?” she asked. He blinked at first.
“Uh…”
Melissa frowned. “Oh boy…”
---------
She might have changed the elements of existence. There wasn’t time to dwell on
that. Once everything settled down, Melissa sat Spencer down at the kitchen
table. He still looked confused, but he calmed down now.
“Your sister is in danger,” she said.
“What?! Where is she?! Is she okay?!” he asked. Melissa held up her hand.
“She’s fine,” she said. “Just trapped.”
“Trapped? Trapped where?” he asked. Melissa took a breath. How was she going to
put this?
“She’s on the other side.” Melissa held up her hand. “She’s not dead. They
trapped her there.” She looked grim now.
“We don’t have much time. There are bad people after her. We have to go in and
get her!” Her face was inches from his. Spencer blinked.
“That’s where you come in,” Melissa said. She grabbed his hand.
“I am going to need you as the way in,” she said.
“Uh… How?” Spencer asked. The woman grinned at him.
“What?” he asked. She reached out and touched him on the forehead. Spencer’s jaw
dropped as he let off a silent scream. Black waves of mist formed around them.
“Here we go!” Melissa shouted. She threw back her head and howled. And then they
were gone.

Meanwhile, Reily’s body went stiff.
“Reily? Reily, what’s wrong?” Quinn asked. His voice might as well have been
miles away. She suddenly collapsed to the endless ground.
