We Have to Keep Going
Time is running
out. Everyone already knew that. They are trying their best. But that might not
be enough. The child opened her eyes. At least she knew she was in the right
place.
Yes, I’m okay,
thank you. But where are we?
“Shhh!” She put
her finger to her lips.
Oh…
The child nodded
once. She began to walk on her tiptoes. Walking like trying to avoid hot coals.
Though walking might be too strong. She was more like floating on the air.
Still, Baby had to keep moving. She held her hands to her chest.
What do we do
now?
“Shhh!”
Masayuki closed
his mouth. Time to be quiet again. Just what were they looking for? He wished
that he could help her. Suddenly, the child paused. She put her finger to her
lips as she looked behind her.
What?
The child stood
still. Her ears were trained onto something that only she could hear in the
distance. She held up her right hand, palm up. Masayuki held his breath. He held
up his hands as if to attack. The child began chanting under her breath. Her
passengers huddled up into a small ball. It was here. The gamble had officially
begun.
But they weren’t
alone.
------------
Three hounds
were sniffing along the trail. They managed to slip through the cracks while no
one was looking. The lead stayed on their targets’ scent. He lifted his head and
sniffed the air. His brothers turned their heads. The three of them didn’t need
to talk to know what they were thinking. The leader put his paw on the black
glass in front of them. Cracks began to form. The dogs all lined up as the
cracks grew rapidly. And then suddenly…
Crash!
Shards of black glass were flying
everywhere. The dogs were running into the hole. One by one, they all vanished
into thin air. They didn’t make a sound as the chase continued.
------------
The child and
Masayuki heard them coming. Now, they had a choice to make. Either they had to
fight off the dogs or continue with the mission. Both were important but one had
to come before the other. Masayuki looked up at his host.
What are we
going to do?
This time, the
child didn’t shush him. She already knew what she needed to do. He didn’t have
to ask her again. If he could smile, he would.
Well okay. I am
in your hands. I will leave it to you.
The child didn’t
have to shush him this time. She held up her hands as if ready to attack. She
could hear the dogs barking in the distance. Baby took in a deep breath. There
was only one way to see if this worked. The child began another chant. Masayuki
braced himself for the next move. He closed his eyes and took in a breath.
A deep green
light formed in the child’s hands. She rolled back her shoulders and threw it up
into the air. So many lights drowned out the dim. The child threw the ball up
into the air. Tiny sparks fell out from the ball. It sucked out all of the sound
from the air. The whole space became silent. She counted down in her head.
Three… Two…
“One.”
And everything went black.
