Chapter Five: How We
First Met:
I’m sorry for
skipping around so much. There’s so much to unpack with this relationship.
Please bear with me. The story might go in several detours. But I will try to
stay on track. Okay, here is how we met.
I was sitting alone
on the school roof. I don’t know why she came out to find me. I didn’t even know
that she existed. To say it just happened would be the most accurate way to
describe it.
So, there I was.
Spiraling into a disappointing future. I didn’t care at the time. Why should I?
No one believed in me anyway. But then…
“Hello?”
“Huh?” I looked up
to see this doe-eyed girl looking down at me.
“Uh… who are you?”
She smiled and
giggled. “I knew I would find you here.”
“Why?”
This weird girl sat
down next to me. “I missed you.”
Okay… What the hell
was this? I thought I had seen her around from somewhere. I wasn’t sure why but
I had the feeling that I saw her outside of school. My brain couldn’t place
where at the time.
“Why?” I asked. She
didn’t answer me. Her smile made me feel uneasy. Who was this girl? What the
hell did she want with me?
“Look, I don’t know
what your game is.”
“Hm?”
“What the hell do
you want?”
She giggled at me.
That weird girl sat down next to me. I frowned as I started to see where this
was heading. Where did she come from? Why was she even here? (I should pop in
here and say that I think we’ve met before. I don’t remember where or when at
the moment. Maybe it will come to me as I go along. Now back to the story.)
“What are you doing
up here?” she asked. I snorted.
“Why do you care?” I
asked.
“Because…”
“Because?”
She shrugged at me.
I frowned and looked away. I wasn’t going to get rid of her, was I? I felt her
eyes on me.
“Nothing,” I
muttered.
“Nothing?” that girl
asked.
“That’s what I said.
Now why are you up here?”
“I was looking for
you.”
“Why?”
“I just wanted to.”
“Why?”
“I don’t know.” I
pictured her shrugging her shoulders as she said that. We didn’t say a word to
each other.
“Go away,” I said.
“No,” that girl
said. I whipped my head around. She was smiling at me, but she had a serious
look in her eyes. To tell you the truth, I started to get nervous for a second.
The woman I looked at her, the more confused and worried. I tried to think of
what to say, but nothing came to my mind. She reached out and touched me on the
forehead. I moved my head back and forth.
“Stop. Stop that,” I
said. She drew back her hand. I think there was more to the back and forth.
Honestly, I don’t remember all of it. It might have been confusing or I was too
freaked out. She might have left when the bell rang. Or maybe she hung around a
little bit longer.
Either way, she wouldn’t let me go.
