Chapter Thirty:
Moment of Reckoning:
Lauren could
hear everything in the meanwhile. But, she was trapped in her body as blood ran
into her mouth. She heard the truth of why she was the way she was.
“I have loved vampires for a long time. I have always wanted what would
happen if we made one immune to sunlight.”
What?! That’s why they did this to me?!
Lauren couldn’t
really see anything. Linda kept pouring more blood in her mouth. So, this was
it? She was just some guinea pig out of a human’s curiosity? At first, shock hit
her. All of this hassle, all of this overpowering hunger, and the persistent
hunters all because of curiosity? More blood spilled into her mouth.
Do you see it?
Lauren’s eyes
shifted in the darkness.
Who’s there?
A tall mirror
appeared in front of her. She couldn’t see anybody in it. Lauren reached out to
touch the glass.
Is this…? The glass itself made her shiver. The
vampire could hear the wailing under the surface. Her ears started to pick up
more talking. Lauren turned behind her. On the outside, Linda had her back to
her. The vampire could hear what she was saying.
“You know, I’m
not done here,” she said. “This could extend the lives of humans too.”
“What?!” Eric
yelled. Linda held out her hands.
“With the right
tests, we could make our test subject the strongest vampire ever,” she said.
“She’s already immune to the sun! Think of what else we can do with the Sun
Disease. If we can make a vampire immune to the sun, think of what we can do for
the human race!”
“You’re insane!”
a hunter yelled.
“But aren’t we
all insane?” Linda asked. “That’s the beauty of science, my people!”
“I’ve had enough
of this,” Eric complained.
“What do you
mean?” she asked. “I thought you wanted this.”
“I just wanted
to make you happy,” her husband confessed. “But you are starting to take this
too far.”
“You are
disrupting the natural order!” one of the hunters yelled. “You will die along
with her!”
“No!” the female
scientist yelled. “We’re on the verge of making a scientific breakthrough!”
Is this how you want this to be? Do you want to live the rest of your life as a
guinea pig? Or do you want to be a queen?
Lauren’s eyes
widened.
A queen?
Yes. It’s your decision. Do you want to be a rat or a queen?
Lauren narrowed
her eyes and gritted her teeth. The last amount of blood slid down her throat.
---------
The hunter
standing over Lauren held picked up his sword.
“Enough of this
bullshit!” he shouted. “I am killing this abomination and then I will kill all
of you for interfering!” Fred held up his hands.
“You don’t have
to do all of that!” he said. “I just came back here to see what was going on!”
“Bullshit!” the
hunter yelled. “I’ve made up my mind! I’m going to kill all of you!” At that
moment, a loud scream filled air. Everyone turned to see Lauren sitting in the
chair, screaming. Her eyes glowed bright red. She rose to her feet.
“I will not be a
lab rat!” the female vampire screamed. “I will be the queen!” The hunter aimed
his sword at her and threw it at her. Lauren flicked away the weapon with one
wave of her hand.
“I will be
queen!” she shouted. “Nobody will own or kill me!” With one wave of her arm,
everyone fell backwards with a strong wind. The female vampire with her glowing
eyes floated upwards and crashed through the ceiling. Linda sat up with stars in
her eyes.
“My daughter!”
she said. “My daughter!” Lauren disappeared into thin air.
--------
“Beautiful,”
Rosaline said. “Things are becoming interesting. What do you think, Doyle?” She
turned around when she heard silence. She found the room empty.
“Now where did he go?” the vampire asked. Rosaline smiled to herself. “No matter. It’s already begun. Doyle won’t be able to stop it. He’ll be too late.” She sat down on the bed and snickered to herself.
