Chapter Thirty-Seven: Regret:

Though I was going to regret this, I didn’t have much to do. I know that’s not an excuse, but still. Too late to turn back now. He’s not going to let me do that. Once Spoony gets an idea in his head, everyone has to see it through to the end. I happened to be the unlucky soul who’s been caught up in this scheme.

It didn’t take him long to reply back either.

By the time I got out of the shower, Spoony already replied back.

“Sweet!” he wrote back. I frowned at my screen. I should just stop before this goes any further tonight. Still, I had to know what he was planning. I couldn’t stop myself. If I had, I could’ve been able to walk away. But no!

I tapped the message.

“So what’s the plan?” I wrote. My finger lingered over the send button. If I do this, it’s over.  I just thought of this on a whim. Now, I had to deal with what was coming next. Right away, I noticed a text bubble pop up on the screen. And here we go. I held my breath.

“You will have to see in the morning. Lol,” he wrote. I rolled my eyes. I should’ve known that he would say that. I ignored the new text from my former students. I need to take myself out of that text group. Right now, I need to sleep.

I made it back to my room and collapsed onto my bed. My phone slid out of my hand as I went to sleep.

---------

The next morning, I awoke to someone knocking on my door. I grumbled as I turned over in my bed. The knocking grew louder.

“Go away!” I shouted. “I wanted to sleep!”

“Nate!” a familiar voice shouted. I opened my eyes. That sounded like Spoony. I sat up in bed.

“Yes?” I asked. I looked up to see the door opening. Spoony poked his head inside.

“Yo,” he said with a wave. I folded my arms across my chest.

“So what’s the plan?” I asked. Spoony stepped into my room with a smirk on his face.

“Come along and you shall see,” he said. I frowned at him.

“Are you ever going to tell me? Do you even have a plan?” I asked.

“Of course I do!” Spoony said with his hands on his hips. “You just have to come along and see it.” I rolled my eyes. Seriously? I already could tell where this was heading.

“Give me ten minutes,” I said. I climbed out bed and walked past him to the bathroom.

“Sure thing, dude,” Spoony said. I waved him off as I walked down the hall. If I am going to do this, I’m at least going to be clean and ready for the worst of it.

By the time was showered and dressed, I found Spoony sitting at the kitchen table, waiting for me. Mom was sitting opposite of him. They turned and looked up at me as if on cue.

“Ready to go?” Spoony asked. I put up my hands in a shrug.

“Sure,” I said.

“Are you going to have breakfast before you go?” mom asked.

“I’ll just grab breakfast bar,” I said. I walked over to the pantry. I could feel her eyes on me as I opened the door. Sorry mom. I just don’t have time today.

“You’ll be back by dinner tonight, right?” she asked. I glanced over my shoulder. Mom had a desperate look in her eyes. I dropped my shoulders and sighed.

“I don’t know,” I said.

“Don’t worry Ms. M,” Spoony said. “I will have him back home before dinner.” I turned to see him saluting at her. I wanted to smack that goofy grin off of his face. Would mom even fall for it? I rolled my eyes.

“Okay…” mom said. I frowned and picked up a breakfast bar from the pantry.

“Let’s just go,” I said. Spoony leapt to his feet.

“Yes sir!” he said. Well that didn’t take long. I opened my bar and took a bite. I walked past them at the table.

“Hey, wait for me!” Spoony shouted. I didn’t turn around as he ran to catch up to me.

“Have a good day!” mom shouted after us. I waved at her before I headed out the door. Once outside, I turned to Spoony.

“Okay, quit screwing around,” I said. “What’s the plan? What scheme are you cooking up now?” Alright, I was going to regret this. Well, it was too late to turn back now.
