Nobody but You
-Gary-
We broke up long ago, but I still love him. My hands trembled as I stared at my
phone. No. This can’t be…
Someone snatched my phone out of my hand. I looked up to see Kai looking back at
me.
“Stop doom scrolling, honey,” he said. “It’s not good for your skin.” I frowned
at him.
“I know,” I said. “But still…”
Kei
raised his eyebrow.
“Is it your ex again?” he asked. I nodded. I heard groaning next to me.
“Isao again?” Shannon asked. “Let him go alright! It’s over!”
“It’s not that easy,” I said.
“Leave him alone, Shannon,” Pink said.
“Yeah, this is my birthday!” Ran said. “It’s all about me!” We gave a slow clap.
Ran was such a diva. Everything had to be about him. I don’t think he liked
Isao.
Kei stood up.
“You’re right!” he shouted. “We’re partying tonight!” He leapt up onto our
table.
“Whew!” he shouted. Kei threw back his head and laughed. The others went into
party mode. I wasn’t in the mood. This was Kei’s idea.
“Come on,” he said. “You need to get out.” I don’t know what happened to me. I
was doing fine until that stupid tour. People talk too much. There’s no way in
hell that my Isao would ever hook up with that skank! He hates her and she hates
him! They would never be together!
I felt myself trembling. Then why am I so upset by it?
A hand rested on my shoulder. I turned to see Kei grinning at me. I rolled my
eyes.
“What?” I asked over the music.
“Let’s dance!” he shouted. He pulled me along onto the dance floor. I stared at
his back, looking confused.
“I don’t get it!” I shouted over the disco and funk pumping through the air. Kei
looked over his shoulder.
“Get what?” he asked.
“Why this?” I asked. “Why am I here?”
“It’s Ran’s birthday!” Kei shouted. I shook my head.
“No, why did you invites me out tonight?” I asked. “Ran and I hate each other.”
Kei stopped in his tracks.
“Because we’re tried of you moping around over your ex,” he said. Every fiber in
body went stiff.
“Kei…” I said, my voice trailing off. He turned to me, grinning. He grabbed me
by the hands.
“Come on! It’s Ran’s birthday! Live a little! It’s party time!” he said. Kei
started dancing to the music. I gave him a blank stared. Like I really had a
choice. I frowned as I started to dance. This wasn’t over yet.
