Machine God of Loose Wires

-Baby Doll-

I lifted my head.

“What was that?” I asked.

“The world is breaking,” Botan said.

“What?” I kept hearing strange popping noises. I looked around overhead. The popping over my head got louder. I didn’t have to ask questions to get the feel of what was coming. I gulped.

“What’s happening? What do we do?” I asked.

“Stay calm.”

I turned my head. Botan sat there, staring back at me.

“I am going to need you to listen closely to me,” he said. “Your friends are coming to find you. But they only have a small window to come and get you.”

“My friends are coming?”

“Yes! But they have to do this quickly. We don’t know how long before he comes back. Get ready to go back.”

“What do I need to do?”

“Take my hand!” He didn’t even have his hand out. Still, something inside of me told me that I didn’t have any choice but to trust him for the moment.

“But I can’t move.”

“You have to try!”

“Okay…” I pictured myself raising my right hand out to grab onto his. I couldn’t move at first. Come on. Come on! Move! Come on! I didn’t give up. I had to get out of here. I needed to go home.

I was able to lift one finger. Yes! I was getting somewhere. I didn’t have time to celebrate. We were running out of time.

It took me a while, but I managed to get my hand up. I reached over toward Botan. His grip on my hand about made me jump. I sucked in a mouthful of air.

“What do we do now?”

Botan took a breath. “Now we focus in on drawing them to us.” He closed his eyes. I drew my eyes closed as well. Botan didn’t sound so convinced, but what choice did we have? I too closed my eyes. I closed off everything around me and focused on the connections.

I hoped this worked.

-Outside-

Meanwhile, he couldn’t keep track of what was going on. Where did all of these lines and connections come from? They formed faster than he could keep up. He couldn’t trace where the source was. He clicked his tongue.

“I can’t have this!”

He drew out a small knife from his sleeve. He gave himself a small cut on the hand. His black-red blood bubbled up to the cut. He took a lick and closed his eyes.

“Come, my pets. Come out and hunt your prey!” he chanted. The blood bubbled out of the cut. Several wolves jumped out of the wound. He smirked and licked his lips.

“Go!” he shouted. The creatures ran out into the empty space and vanished. He dropped back and drew his eyes closed. He was just going to rest for a while. He’d wake up when everything was fixed.

Two people were trying to call over the calvary. One being was trying to kill them all. Which one was going to get there first?
