One Night in Simple Tokyo

I: 7:00 p.m.:

Lets go out tonight! Kei cheered. Her boys gave her funny looks. Simon blinked at her.

Why? he asked. Its a school night.

Exactly, she said. All the more to go out.

And go where? Conrad asked. Kei gave him a little shrug.

Anywhere, really! she said. Now come on! Lets go out tonight! Why bother arguing with her? She wont listen. When Kei wants to do something, thats all she wrote. No one elses opinion matters. The boys just kind of nodded.

Alright, Conrad said. Whatever you say. Both of them looked at Simon. Kei leaned close to his face.

Well? she asked. What will be your answer? The boy bit his lower lip. His eyes glanced over to Conrad for assistance on this matter.

You might as well say yes, his eyes told him. Simon lowered his head.

Fine, he mumbled. Kei leapt up squealing and clapping her hands.

You guys are so awesome! she cheered. And so, out they went for the night.

II: 8:15 p.m.

The lights of Simple Tokyo screamed, Look at me! to everyone passing by on the street. Kei told each step grinning. The boys followed behind still lost on what she was planning for them.

Uh, Kei, Simon spoke up. His female friend didnt turn around.

Uh-hm? she asked.

What exactly are we doing tonight? he asked.

What did you say? the Kyoto princess asked.

What are we doing tonight besides walking around the city? Simon asked much clearer.

Ah! she said. Just this and that. He gave her a funny look.

So in other words, you have no clue? he challenged. Kei turned around grinning at him like wild cat.

Does there have to be a plan? she asked. I mean does there really have to be a plan for everything we do in life? I mean, whatever happened to just going with it? Thats it! Tonight, no questions! We just do as please and see what happens! Got me? Conrad and Simon gave her a nervous chuckle.

She sounds like Kamina!, Simon thought. Kei leaned in close to their faces.

Got me? she asked again. The boys nodded at her in a hopeless to appease her.

Yeah, yeah, they lied with forced smiles on their faces. Their leader pulled back with a chuckle.

Good, good, she said.  Then, she picked up on her walk. Ooo, this nights going to be great! Conrad and Simon followed along without any choice in the matter.

III: 9:00 p.m.

The trio came into McDonalds as a first stop. The boys blinked at the glass doors.

Kei, Conrad said. I already ate.

So? she asked. You can just order anything small that you like. My treat.

You cool with that? he asked.

Yeah! she insisted. I have the money after all. He nodded a bit.

Okay he mumbled. Kei turned her focus to her other guy friend.

And what about you, Simon? she asked. The blue-haired quickly put up his hands.

Im fine, really, he said. Kei perked up with a smile on her tiny face.

Then its settled! she said. Then, she pushed the door open and let them inside. There werent many people inside at the moment. They probably went to eat somewhere else or at the bars and clubs. Kei didnt mind it. (More room for us! she chirped.) The trio came to the counter. A tired and bored clerk didnt even budge.

Welcome, how may I help you today? she mumbled.

Excuse me, Kei said gracefully. I would like three orders of iced coffee, red bean pie, curly fries, and She turned to her boys.

Is there anything else you would like? she asked. Simon and Conrad shook their heads.

No? Kei asked.

Nah, they said.

Im good, Conrad said. The Kyoto princess looked back at the clerk fighting to stay awake.

Thats it, she said.

Will this be for here or to go? the woman behind the desk asked.

Here, Kei replied. The clerk rang up the order.

Thatll be 1,193.68 yen, she mumbled.

Sorry? Kei asked. Could you repeat that?

1,193.68 yen, please? the clerk said.

Yes maam, Kei replied. Then, she reached into her wallet and paid in a 2,000 yen bill. The clerk began to hand back the change when Kei held up her hand.

Keep the change, she said. The clerks face didnt change.

Whatever, she mumbled. Take a number.

Gladly, Kei said. She picked out number forty-five. The trio sat over by the window. Kei smiled at the people walking by outside.

I always love sitting by the window, she said to no one in particular. This isnt our usual place to spy on people, but hey. It works, wouldnt you agree?

Why are we here? Simon asked.

Here in McDonalds? she asked. Or out on the town?

Both, he said. Kei smiled and giggled.

No questions, remember? she told him.

But he began to say. She put her finger to his lips.

Just roll with it, the Kyoto princess told him in a low voice. Simon slowly closed his mouth. Kei smiled and sat back in the booth. At that moment, the waitress came with their food.

Thank you, maam! Kei told her. She turned back to her friends.

Eat up boys, she said. She picked up her fork and took a bite of her pie. The boys took a fry each to make it easier. Most strangely quiet meal ever.

IV: 10:00 p.m.

Back on the street again. Kei twirled around with childlike joy. Conrad and Simon smiled a bit. Such a strange thing to enjoy watching her like this. She turned around to them.

I want to show you guys something! she said. And dont ask any questions. Just come with me. The boys didnt even bother to argue back with her. Kei gave them a goofy little grin.

Good! she said. Now come on. She took the boys by the hand and led them down the street.

Kei, Simon, and Conrad came up to the pink-tinted glass doors. The princess pushed open the door. A thirty-something hostess woman with cat ears on her head gave Kei and her friends a funny look.

Isnt it kind late for you kids to be out on a school night? she asked. The Kyoto princess gave her a little smirk as she flashed her a handful of yen. The hostess gave her a big, rich smile.

I guess not, she said. The woman moved aside to let them through. The kitty girls looked up when they heard the footsteps. A nineteen-year-old girl dressed up like an orange Playboy tabby cat leapt up with rosy cheeks.

Baby sister! she cheered. Its so good to see you again. Simon and Conrads cheeks turned tomato red at the sight of the cats bouncing boobs.

Baby sister? Conrad asked in a whisper.

Just go with it! Kei whispered with clenched teeth. She walked forward with big arms.

Big sister! she said. I missed you so much! The girls hugged each other, giggling. The cat looked over her younger sisters shoulders.

And who are your friends? she asked. Kei smiled at that question.

These are my friends, Conrad and Simon, she said. The boys didnt know whether to be in awe or scared at her sudden child-like state. The big cat smiled at them.

Pleased to meet you! she said. She walked over and gave them a big hug. Her boobs pressed up against them, almost smothering them. Simon and Conrad gave off a nervous laugh.

Same to you, Simon mumbled. Kei took in the whole scene with delight. She did her best to repress a little chuckle.

V: Midnight:

Next stop? The local playground. Kei laid her head down on the cool wet grass.

Look at the pretty stars! she said. The boys were still trying to result from over boobage.

I have never seen so much jiggle, Simon said aloud. Sure, he was used to Yoko, but take that and multiply it by twenty, no, thirty. Yeah

They mean well, she said.

Im sure they do he mumbled. Conrad checked his phone. Kei looked over at him.

What are you doing? she asked.

Im trying to see if Hellia called me yet, he said. Nothing so far. Kei rolled over on her stomach.

Dont worry about her, she said. This is about us tonight.

Yeah, but you know how she gets, he said.

Yeah, Kei mumbled. Can I see that for a moment?

Sure, Conrad replied as he handed her his phone.

Thanks, she said. Kei turned off his phone and threw it in the sandbox. Conrad sat up in shock.

Whatd you do that for?!? he shouted. Kei gave him a little shrug.

Felt like it, she said. Her friend frowned at her in a bitter way. The Kyoto princess gave him a goofy little smile.

Come on, Conrad! she said. Itll be fine. You can just explain that you were with me. Conrad laid back with an uneasy face.

Thats what I was afraid of, he thought.

VI: 3:00 a.m.

The trio walked around the city again. Everything looked quiet and dead like an old silent movie. Kei and her boys fought to stay awake as long as they could. Sunrise would come in three or four hours from now. The crew had school tomorrow.

You tired yet? Simon asked their leader. Kei shook her head.

No, she mumbled still sounding like she had some energy left. They speak for six more blocks. Finally, Kei stopped in her place.

Want to go home? she asked.

Yes! the boys said. Kei didnt speak for the longest time. They prepared to be dragged around the city for a little bit longer. She kept her back turned to them.

You can all go home now, she said. Simon and Conrad gave her a blank as they all started walking again.

What just happened there?

VII: 6:00 a.m.

And so the night came to an end.

Kei went to sleep in her bed in her apartment.

Conrad snuck into his room and went to sleep in his own wake in hopes not to wake up aunt and cousin.

Simon slept in his own bed in his apartment.

Better get as much sleep as you can, guys. Youve got school in a couple of hours.

VIII: Wild Night:

Roaming the city. Eating late at McDonalds. Hanging out at a kitty caf. Watching the stars at midnight. Pretty mild compared to the weekend nights and nights with the Stardust Factory.

Black Night Out
