Spencer
-Spencer-
I am a mess. Sis is always disappointed in me. I mean… I can’t blame her. She’s
got no one. And me?
“I’m home,” I heard Jerry say. I waved at him. He headed to his room. I sat on
the couch. He’s the only one in the house who works. I just… Don’t really do
anything. Sis is always disappointed in me.
“You are twenty years old. You need to get a job!” she said. I know, I know. But
no one wants to hire me. I went to college… but I dropped out. I haven’t done
much with my life. I barely graduated high school. I don’t have anything else
going for me.
“What’s wrong, man?” Jez asked. I looked up.
“Not much,” I said. I frowned.
“It’s Reily, isn’t it?” he asked. I nodded.
“Sort of,” I said. Jez sat down next to me.
“Bummer, dude,” he said.
“Yeah,” I said. The TV was on. The sound was down. We stared at the screen. I
think it was the news or something.
“Damn! Laney’s so fucking hot,” Jez said. I pressed my lips together as I
nodded. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.
“Huh?” I asked.
“Who is that?” Jez asked.
“Did we pay rent?” Jen yelled from down the hall.
“Yeah!” Jez shouted. I don’t know why I did but I stood up and walked over to
the door.
“Spenser?” my roommate asked. I looked out the peephole. A confused look came
onto my face.
“Who is it?” Jez asked.
“I don’t know,” I said. “It’s some lady at the door.” I opened the door.
“What are you doing, dude?” Jez asked. I don’t know. I didn’t have an answer. It
just happened. That crazy lady grinned at me. I blinked at first.
“Uh… Can I help you?” I asked.
“Hello Spencer,” that woman said.
“Who are you? How do you know my name?” I asked. She grinned as she touched my
forehead. And everything went black.
